INDUSTRIAL PERSONNEL DECONTAMINATION
Engineered to Support Safer Exits from Controlled Work Zones
Hazardous dust can cling to clothing, boots, gloves, and PPE during abrasive blasting, coating removal, sanding, grinding, plating, and other surface preparation processes.
The Tempest Cat II Personnel Air Shower,
available via NSN, uses controlled airflow, negative pressure, and filtration to help reduce dust migration between dirty and clean zones, supporting cleaner exits and safer facilities.
Designed for high-dust industrial, aerospace, defense, mining, blasting, and coating removal environments, the system supports worker decontamination as part of a broader contamination-control process.

PERSONNEL AIR SHOWERS FOR HEXAVALENT CHROMIUM DUST CONTROL
Hexavalent chromium dust and other hazardous contaminants can cling to work clothing, boots, gloves, and PPE during abrasive blasting, coating removal, sanding, grinding, plating, and related surface preparation processes. Without proper controls, these contaminants can be carried outside the work area and into clean zones, breakrooms, vehicles, or workers’ homes.
OSHA regulates occupational exposure to hexavalent chromium under 29 CFR 1910.1026 and requires controls intended to reduce exposure and help prevent contaminated dust from being carried out of the work area.
The VES Tempest Cat II Personnel Air Shower is engineered to support worker decontamination before employees exit controlled work zones. When paired with VES blast booths, dust collection systems, HEPA filtration, Hex Buster™, and Hex Detex™, personnel air showers become part of a larger contamination-control strategy for facilities managing hazardous dust and hexavalent chromium exposure risks.

Technical Information
Review system construction, airflow design, filtration, installation requirements, and compliance information.
System Construction & Design
The Tempest Cat II Personnel Air Shower is built for demanding industrial environments where worker decontamination and contamination control are part of daily operations.
The system features durable steel construction, an enclosed chamber, non-skid flooring, and pass-through door configurations designed to support controlled movement between contaminated and clean zones. Modular wall panels allow the system to be configured for one-door, two-door, three-door, and pass-through layouts depending on facility flow and decontamination requirements.
Airflow, Filtration & Negative Pressure
The Tempest Cat II uses controlled airflow, negative pressure, and high-efficiency filtration to help remove dust and particles from workers’ clothing and PPE during the decontamination cycle.
Balanced airflow is directed across the worker while the enclosed chamber helps contain dust movement. Dual-stage filtration, including MERV 8 pre-filters and HEPA filtration, supports dust capture before air is discharged from the system.
Worker Decontamination Process
Before leaving the controlled work area, the worker enters the enclosed air shower chamber wearing work clothing and PPE. During the cleaning cycle, directed airflow helps remove hazardous dust and particles from clothing, boots, gloves, and PPE.
This process helps reduce the movement of contaminants from dirty work zones into cleaner areas such as hallways, offices, breakrooms, vehicles, and homes. Personnel air showers can be an important part of a broader take-home contamination control strategy.
Installation Flexibility
The Tempest Cat II can be incorporated into a range of facility layouts and operational workflows. The system supports multiple door configurations and can be positioned to support controlled movement between dirty and clean areas.
Remote dust collector and air receiver tank placement options allow the system to work in tight or complex locations. Outdoor-ready upgrades, weatherproof controls, protective awning options, and stand-alone compressor or generator packages are available for certain applications.
Monitoring & Maintenance
The Tempest Cat II is designed to support straightforward operation and routine maintenance. Filter load monitoring, system-ready indicators, and accessible filter replacement points help operators maintain the system as part of daily facility operations.
Routine inspection and maintenance of filters, airflow systems, and operating components help support long-term performance and consistent decontamination practices.
Related VES Solutions
The Tempest Cat II can be part of a broader VES contamination-control strategy. Related VES solutions include blast booths, blast cabinets, dust collection systems, HEPA filtration, paint booths, Hex Buster™, and Hex Detex™.
By combining personnel decontamination with source capture, filtration, and hazardous dust management, facilities can build a more complete approach to worker protection and contamination control.
Notes & Compliance
OSHA regulates occupational exposure to hexavalent chromium under 29 CFR 1910.1026 and requires controls intended to reduce employee exposure and help prevent contaminated dust from being carried out of the work area.
The VES Tempest Cat II Personnel Air Shower is engineered to support worker decontamination and help facilities working to manage hazardous dust and hexavalent chromium exposure risks. It is intended to support contamination-control efforts as part of a broader safety and compliance program.
Actual results vary by configuration, use, material, contaminant type, maintenance, and operating environment.
ENGINEERED TO NIOSH DECONTAMINATION GUIDANCE
Designed Around Proven Clothes & PPE Cleaning Principles
The Tempest Cat II is engineered around NIOSH decontamination guidance and industrial clothes & PPE cleaning research for workers exposed to hazardous dust. Its design focuses on controlled airflow, worker positioning, negative pressure, and filtered dust capture to support effective clothing and PPE decontamination.
This is not a cleanroom-style air shower. The Tempest Cat II is built for industrial environments where the goal is to help remove dust from workers before they leave a contaminated work area.
ENGINEERED TO DELIVER
Consistent negative pressure throughout the cleaning cycle
Balanced 2,500 CFM airflow for effective dust removal
Dual-stage filtration with MERV 8 pre-filters and HEPA filtration
Variable frequency drive with soft start for controlled operation
ENGINEERED TO DELIVER
Compressed air restricted below the operator's shoulders
Modular layouts for one-door, two-door, and three-door configurations
Remote dust collector and air receiver tank placement options
Available outdoor upgrades and stand-alone power/compressor options
PERFORMANCE FOCUSED DECONTAMINATION
PROVEN DUST REMOVAL
Greater than 85% dust removal in as little as 18 seconds, based on validated testing of the clothes cleaning process.
HIGH-EFFICIENCY FILTRATION
Dual-stage filtration includes MERV 8 pre-filters and HEPA filtration to help capture fine airborne particles during the decontamination process.
CONTROLLED AIRFLOW
WindDraft™ Technology is designed to direct airflow across clothing and PPE while supporting negative pressure inside the chamber.
OPERATOR SAFETY FEATURES
Compressed air is restricted below the shoulders, and workers remain inside a controlled chamber during the cleaning cycle.
Actual results vary by configuration, use, material, contaminant type, maintenance, and operating environment.
